NYSYLC Board of Directors Announces New Member: Cesar Andrade
NYSYLC’s Board of Directors is pleased to welcome its newest member, Cesar Andrade.
Cesar Andrade is a Family Medicine doctor with a focus on hospital medicine, addiction medicine, palliative care, and providing care for underserved populations. Originally from Ecuador, Cesar immigrated to the United States in 2001. His path to medicine was shaped by his experiences as an undocumented immigrant, where he witnessed firsthand the health disparities that immigrants face when accessing healthcare. These experiences fueled his commitment to advocating for marginalized communities.
Cesar became actively involved in immigrant rights organizing as a member of the New York State Youth Leadership Council (NYSYLC) in the 2010s where he participated in several campaigns like advocating for the NYS Dream Act which allowed undocumented youth to access state-funded financial aid for college. As a DACA recipient, he was able to intern at the New York State Health Foundation, where he helped with place-based investments aimed at improving the health of underserved communities in NYC. He also helped grow awareness about health insurance access for DACA recipients in NYS. After earning his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Cesar completed his Family Medicine residency in Seattle. During his residency, he worked at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), where he provided care to immigrant populations in the community.
Cesar is passionate about supporting and empowering immigrant youth, giving back to the community that shaped him, and continuing to address health disparities faced by underserved groups in the United States.
Cesar Andrade’s dedication to empowering immigrant youth and addressing systemic inequities aligns perfectly with the NYSYLC’s mission. His journey from an NYSYLC member to an advocate and leader in medicine is a testament to the power of collective action. Please join us in celebrating Cesar’s return to the NYSYLC, now as a Board Member.
