A statement on Immigration Raids

In the light of recent mainstream focus on the increase of immigration raids, we want to remind our community to stay alert and to be ready to fight back.

It is important to remember that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) attacks on our communities are not new. ICE has and will continue to target non-citizens (including undocumented, green card holders, asylum seekers, and refugees), folks who have been in touch with the criminal injustice system (offenses and convictions), recently arrived individuals, children, families, queer, transgender, dark-skinned and black migrants.

At the YLC, we know how we and our families are affected by deportations. It is important to stay informed through the organizations who are doing the education and advocacy work with communities on the ground. If you are aware of a raid happening please report it by calling the Families for Freedom hotline at 646-290-5551.

We must stay alert and informed, and we must speak up and fight back. Strengthening our community is the only thing that will stop these deportations. Please know that we love you and we are here for you. If you have any questions, please email Guadalupe at lupe@nysylc.org

The YLC will be hosting Know Your Rights workshops on January 15th and 22nd at 6:30 pm.
